"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN"

MR. SAVAGE'S MISTAKE. Telegraph. —Parliamentary Reporter-) V WELLINGTON, this day. A slip of the tongue made by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Savage, in his speech on the Budget in the House of Representatives last night was turned by him to advantage. Mr. Ran/soni had moved for an extension of time for Mr. Savage, and the latter resumed his speech with the words, "However, ladies and gentlemen—" . Loud laughter stopped him, and when it died down he said he thought he was addressing the people of New Zealand. "I spoke to scores of meetings in the recess," he said. "I tajked to thousands of intelligent people, and I might be excused if I thougit I was still speaking to them." More laughter from both sides of the House intervened, and Mr. Savage again got into his stride.
