SAFE OPENED.

FOURTH BURGLARY. PREMISES IN NEWMARKET. GELIGNITE LEFT BEHIND. For the fourth time during the past IS months, burglars entered the factory of Koefocd's, Ltd., condiment manufacturers, Mortimer Pass, off Manukau Road, Newmarket, last night, and ransacked the oil ice and forced the safe

open. The same office was entered about a month ago, when the safe was blown open and a small sum of cash stolen. The burglar 011 that occasion is now in prison for four years, for that and other crimes. Last night the factory was entered by breaking a window*-at the rear of the premises. Every drawer in the office was forced open, but 110 cash was found. The burglar, or burglars, came fully prepared with gelignite and detonators to blow the safe, but found it unnecessary to'use explosives. Tipping the large safe, which is ft 4iu in height by 2ft Sin wide, over on its back in the middle of the iloor in the ollice, the burglars, using a sharp iron instrument, cut a hole in the outer lining of the door, and successfully manipulated the combination lock anil opened the safe door. They must have been disappointed at finding only lid in pennies and a few stamps in the safe.

Several plugs of gelignite ami a few detonators, also a length of fuse, were left behind by the safe-breakers. Those were found .by the manager on the olliee table this morning.

"Wo have profited by experience as the result of the last three visits, and never leave any money in the safe, so I don't know why these burglars persist ill visiting us," said the manager this morning. "The first time they called they got £5, the second time £2 10/, but the last two visits they ojily got a few pence."
