The official announcement from Balmoral states:—
"It is with the greatest pleasure that the King and Queen announce the betrothal of their dearly beloved son, George, to Princess Marina, daughter of Prince and Princess Nicholas of Greece, to which union the King has gladly given his consent."
The engagement is the culmination of a holiday romance when the Prince and Princess were the guests of Prince Paul of Yugoslavia. They have known each other for five years. They first met in London, which Princess Marina was privately visiting, and later they met whenever the Princess was In England. Prince George left England for Yugo-
slavia on August 15. Princess Marina, who is tall, charming and a brunette, celebrates her 2Sth birthday on November 30. She is tho youngest of Prince Nicholas' thro* daughters. The Prince will remain a week in Yugoslavia, whither he has just returned from Salzburg.
Many Tastes in Common. The Prince and Princess have many tastes in common, principally in their love of music. The Prince frequently played the piano to her in St. James' Palace.
A friend describes her as a typical, modern girl, fond of outdoor sports. She is a fluent linguist and speaks English perfectly.
Her father is the younger brother of the late King Constantine and an uncle of the ex-King George. Her mother was the Grand Duchess Helen of Russia. Prince Nicholas is a well-known writer and painter. He exhibited paintings in London and created a literary sensation .when in his "Political Memoirs" in 1928 he defended Constantine against the charge of pan-Germanism.
