FOR WELLINGTON.

| CHATHAM CUP FINAL. N.Z. COUNCIL DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The New Zealand Football Council has decided that the final of the Chatham Cup between Christchurch Thistle and Auckland Thistle should be played at Wellington. In pursuing its request that the final be played away from Wellington, the Canterbury Association stated in a letter that it was the unanimous opinion of the management committee and supporters of the code in Christchurch that the match be played either in Auckland or Christchurch as the centres which were directly concerned. An atmosphere conducive to a big gate had been created. A letter from the Auckland Association stated that, while appreciating the position of the Canterbury Association, it considered it most inconvenient for the Thistle team to travel to Christchurch. The Otago Association wrote supporting the opinion that the final be played in Wellington on the score of travelling. A Member: It is a funny thing that in the past a Christchurch team did not want to go to Auckland, and an Auckland team did not want to go to Christchurch. In speaking to a motion by Mr. F. Mackie that the final be played in Wellington, the chairman, Mr. B. L. Salmon, said that in reality it was a business proposition. "Where will you get tlie best gate?" he asked. "I say in Wellington." Mr. W. G. Boyce moved an amendment that the final be played in Christchurch. The amendment was lost and it was decided that the final take place in Wellington. MORE BRITISH MATCHES. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 28. Results of Association football matches played this afternoon: — First Division.—Grimsby drew with Sunderland, no score. Northern Division.—Barrow beat Rochdale, 1 —0; Doncaster beat Southport, 2 —l.
