AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN. Yorkshire Defeated by Leicestershire. HAMMOND'S GREAT AVERAGE. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 10. Owing to heavy rain no play was possible on the final day of the Australia v. Warwickshire cricket match, and the game was left drawn. Australia had scored 221 and 185 for four wickets, while the county's first innings had closed for 179.

In his innings of 302 not out against Glamorgan at Bristol, W. K. Hammond batted for 340 minutes, hitting three sixes and 30 fours. The Gloucestershire champion has new scored 1293 runs in his last seven county matches, at an average of 258 runs per innings.

Other outstanding features of the scries of county games which terminated this afternoon were still another century by Frank Woolley (his 101 st for Kent) and the defeat of Yorkshire by Leicestershire. After a sporting declaration by. A. B. Sellers at Leicester the home side ran up 250, leaving the visitors with only 148 to make to save the game. H. A. Smith, a fast right-arm bowler, however, took six wickets for 39 and Yorkshire was dismissed for less than 100.

Among many other good bowling performances were: —L. C. Eastman (Essex), four for none; H. L. Hazcll (Somerset), seven for 77; J. L. Hopwood (Lancashire), 13 for 00; C. S. Marriott (Kent), 11 for 83; and M. W. Tate (Sussex), 10 for 91. Results: — Middlesex: First innings, 184 (Fender five for 84); second, 292 (Trice 87; Fender five for 04). Surrey: First innings, 359 (Gregory 121; Smith six for 98); second, nine for 118 (Allen four for 42, Smith five' for 58). Surrey won by one- wicket.

Somerset: First innings, GO (Eastman four for none; Fames four for 35); second, 111. Essex: First innings, 120 (Hazell seven for 77); second, none for 4G. Essex won by 10 wickets.

Lancashire: First innings, 240 (Eckcrsley 89); second, five for 202, declared (Tyldcsley 87 not out). Derby: First innings, 170 (Hopwood five for 32); second, 137 (Hopwood eight for 58). Lancashire won by 13.3 runs. t

Northants: First innings, 146 (Kennedy five for 48); second, 205. Hampshire: First innings, 293 (Moore 81; Partridge five for 77); second, none for 59. Hampshire won by 10 wickets.

Kent: First innings, six for 445, declared (Woolley 101, Ames 99). Notts: First innings, 110 (Freeman five for 02, Marriott four for 27); follow-on, 175 (Marriott seven for 50). Kent won by an innings and 154 runs.

Gloucester: First innings, six for 603, declared (Barnett 123, Hammond 302 not out). Glamorgan: First innings, five for 324 (E. Da vies 127, Turnbtill 97). Match drawn. '

Leicester: First innings, 94 (Bowes four for 17, Smailes four for 30); second, 250 (Armstrong 98 not out). Yorkshire: First innings, live for 190, declared (Leyland 90); second, 90 (H. A, Smith six for 39). Leicester won by 08 runs.

Sussex: First innings, 417 (Cook 97, James Langridge 149 not out); second, two for 203, declared (John Langridge 86 not out). Worcester: First innings, 194 (Tate four for 47); second, 157 (Tate six for 44). Sussex won by 269 runs.
