LOCAL BODIES.

NEW LYNN. ' A meeting of the New; Lynn Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr. Geo. Lawson, presided, and members present were Messrs. A. J. Jeffrey, Geo. Severne, A. Woolley, H. Hands, F. Carter and C. Drury. Bus Services.—A letter was received from the Auckland Bus Company relative to a suggestion from th'e council that a bug should run to' Willerton Avenue. The company stated that there were difficulties in the way at the present time, but it intended increasing the service in that part of the district and would submit for the council's approval improvements at a later date. The explanation was accepted and the council expressed its appreciation o£ recent improvements made in the service. Appointment of Assessor.—lt was decided to call a meeting of ratepay-ers. on Tuesday, July 31, for the purpose of selecting an assessor under the Valuation of Land Act, 1928. The period of appointment is three years. Traffic.—The traffic inspector again reported upon the difficulty in obtaining correct •names from cyclists who were offenders in riding at night without lights. The council will continue to advocate_ the compulsory registration of all bicycles. Drivers' licenses were checked at the Whau Bridge on Sunday last, and 61) drivers were caught not carrying their licenses. Unemployed. — Two deputations were received by the council in committee on matters relative to unemployed workmen in the borough. The council will consider the position at a special meeting. Dogs.—The number of dogs running loose in the borouph was commented upon and the borough inspector was instructed to prosecute where owners had not registered their animals. ONEHUNGA. A meeting of the Onchunga Borough Council held last night was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. E. Morton. Motor Vehicles.—The inspector is to report on a request from the Commissioner of Transport to have a check taken of motor vehicles passing through Onehunga, to ascertain the number of motorists with imperfect brakes and lights. Transport Board.—The board is promoting a local bill dealing with the alteration of representation by reason of merger, union, division or other alteration. In submitting this inrormation to the council, the board also stated that it is seeking authority to alter the method of voting in any one or more of its constituencies by marking a cross opposite a candidate's name. While any such resolution of the board remains in force it shall be lawful for any ?ocal authority to which such resolution applies to adopt the same method of voting. Unlicensed Hawkers.—The inspectors are to report any unlicensed hawkers in the borough not carrying a proper badge, which the council will supply at a reasonable price. Patrick Street. —The foreman reported that he had attempted to sink a soak hole i;i Patrick Street, but lun, struck solid rock, and there was no likelihood of success. Very few renlies had been received from property owners whose properties were likely to be benefited from the drainage of Patrick Street, and only about £24 had been promised toward the work. PAPAKURA. The fortnightly meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held last evening, Mr. H. E. McEntee presiding over an attendance of three members. No apologies were received from the three absent members. Water Board.—Tt was decider! to confirm the action of the special committee in supporting the promotion of the Water Board Bill. The board is not dissatisfied with its present water supply, but if a water board is formed it wishes to protect its own supply. Heavy Traffic Fees.—A letter was received from the Auckland City Council in respect to the apportionment of the heavy traffic fees. There had been £12.540 collected, in the following percentages:— Papakura .68, Manurewa .80, Papatoetoe .82, Otahuhu 1.50. Pukekohe 1.45, Waiuku .49 and Manukau County 6.27 per cent. The apportionment under the Act would be as follows:—Papakura 0.68 per cent, Manurewa 0.79 per cent, Papatoptoe O.SI per cent, OtahuTiu 1.51 per cent, Pukekohe 1.44 per cent, Waiuku 0.49 per cent. Mannkau County 6.17 per cent and Franklin County 11.96 per cent. Band Instruments.—A further application was made by Mr. Enos Pegler, of Manurewa, for a loan of some of the Papakura Band instruments. It was resolved to lend the instruments to the Manurewa Town Board under certain suitable guarantees.
