CENTRE'S CHAMPIONSHIPS. Boisterous, cold showery weather prevailed on Saturday when the Auckland Amateur Cycling Centre conducted the annual teams and junior road championships. In the junior event over a course of 13 1-5 miles, extending from Carrlngton Koad to the To Atatu turn and back, 18 competed. The event was run under unpaced conditions and an interval of two minutes was observed between the departure of riders. The course was over the concrete highway, the actual start and linlsli being along a short stretch of bitumen. Just, prior to the race the riders drew lor their starting positions. The I'apatoetoo Club's onlv entrant, W. Itayly, drew No. 1, and H. J. Robertson (Lynndale) was last to start. ~ _ At the Te Atatu turn, slightly over the half-way mark, the best rider was Ross •Tones, in 20.40. Tn the club teams championship four picked riders from each club competed. An interval of !> minutes was observed between departure of cach team. All six local clubs were well represented. The event was over a 214 miles course from Point Chevalier to Swanson nnd back. The wind was a troublesome factor on tin? way out, but fast return Urues were made. The teams started in the following older : — Lynndnle, Bench Ilnven, Tnknpuna, Manukau. Pnpntoetoe and Auckland. It Tvas championship day at Tamakl on Saturday, the Auckland Cycle Club deciding their A and B grade championships over n distance of 21 miles. The "champs," as usual, were run under unpneed conditions, the riders leaving at half-minute intervals, for the fastest to become the champions for 1934. A sealed handicap was held in conjunction with the events, nlso a junior race of Gj miles. A strong sou'-westerly wintl and rain squalls, made racing conditions hard.
