DICKENS FELLOWSHIP

There was a large attendance at last night's meeting of the Dickens Fellowship, when the study of "Martin Chuzzlcwit" was continued. The president, Mr. T. Clarkson, presided. Mr. G. S. Bullen was in charge of the programme, and spoke of Dickens' first visit to America and the effect it had on his literary work.

Chapters 21 to 25 were ieviewed, and readings from them were given as follows: —"The Train Journey from New York," Mr. D. A. Neil; "Martin's Levee," Miss M. Manning; "Arrival at the Vallev of Eden," Mr. J. W. Kealy; "Tom Pinch's Attack on Jonas." Mr. G. S. Bullen; "Merry Pecksniff's Love Affair," Dr. C. 11. Tewsley; "Mrs. Gamp Visits Mr. Mould," Mrs. Kenneth Gordon. During the evening Mrs. Kenneth Gordon and .Mr. T. Clarkson reported on the flourishing condition of kindred fellowships recently visited in (Jhristchurch and Wellington. I
