LOCAL BODIES.
OTAHUHU. The Otahuhu Borough Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. St. Mary's Homes.—A request from the St. Mary's Homes for support in their social service work was favourably received and a donation of £2 2/ was made. Petition. —Residents of Hokonui Road petitioned the council to authorise the removal of . a hedge at the rear of thenproperties, on the ground that it was a menace to health. The Mayor said the inspector reported that there was no danger to health and as the hedge was not under the control of the council no action could be taken. Cattle on Footpaths.—The inspector- reported that Mangere Road and Walmsley Road were watched for breaches by drovers, but as they had warning of the council's intention to take action the drovers were very careful. The council will continue to place men on duty from time to time. Arbor Day.—The chairman of the parks committee. Mr. F. W. Grey, said a scheme for fittingly celebrating Arbor Day was being arranged. The Technical High School, the Primary School and the Convent School had agreed to co-operate in a tree-planting ceremony in Sturgess Park. Sturgess Park. —The parks committee reported a contract had been given to A. Den ha m to install the floodlights at a cost of £50. The League Football Club had been given the use of the park on the 7th and 28th prox., and the Rugby Club oti 14th and 21st. The Rugby Club had been given permission to make a charge of not more than 1/ per person on both days, on condition that the proceeds of one day are divided between the parks committee and charity. The League lias been given permission to make a sinvlar charge on one day only.
