THE FIELD WITH A FENCE.

I (By Betty Turner, Boucher Avenue, Te Puke.) The following problem baffles a good many people because the answer seems to be so obvious. It is just this. A mile of wire* fencing exactly encloses a field of 40 acres. Wl.nt size field will be enclosed by two miles of wire fencinn? As often as not the answer is given ae 80 acres. But this is wrong. Draw a plan of the field and you will see that the two miles .of fencing will enclose four times as much space as the one mile. Therefore the answer is 100 acres.
