MODESTY VESTS.
I LACE AND GAUGING. Uncommon modesty vests, which will ■ ' look equally well with a dress or with ; r a coat and skirt, can be made from ' insertion lace measuring from one and ' a half to two inches wide. Take eight < } or 10 strips 12 inches long, arranging > that the pattern or design occurs at the ■ same distances from the end on each i t one. Face them in twos, right sides ' r together, so that every part of the 1 design lies on a similar one, and cut ' off, at an angle of 45 degrees, one end -of each pair of strips. Turn in the 1 angular edges and join them with vein- ■ 2 ing so that four or five V-shaped pieces , 3 of°insertion are formed. Secure these, 1 one below the other, with .vetoing. , r Straighten and hem the sides and, if ' liked, edge the top with narrow lace. 2 Vests made in this manner from 3 strips of pique or thick silk are par--1 ticularly suitable for wearing with the 3 new linen tweeds for the coming sca--3 son. 1 Gauged silk vests are also service--3 able.
