SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A very enjoyable card evening was given on Tuesday by Miss Cliff Stead at her home for the Remuera Catholic Tennis Club. Various card games were played, and after a delightful supper was served, the evening finished with community singing. The guests included Misses Robertson, Joan Robertson, E. Jones, D. Walker, E. Gamble, N. Gamble, J. Mullins, C. Mullins, M. Oddy.
Mrs. A. E. Macartney, of Norana Avenue, Remuera, was hostess at a most enjoyable party, the guest of honour being Mrs. P. Heath Preest, who is leaving on the Monterey for a trip abroad. The hostess received her guests in black georgette, and Mrs. P. Heath Preest was in nigger brown, with smart brown hat. The drawing room and study were beautifully decorated with Iceland poppies, large log fires adding a cosy touch. Among the guests were Mesdamee G. Proud, G. H. L. Tancred, D. Hyauiason, A. Turner, F. Kay Stratton, F. H. Hobday, W. M. Neumegen, W. F. Allen and F. Phillips. ♦ » * •
On Thursday night the Garrick Dramatic Society held a house-warming to celebrate its acquisition of new club rooms, and to welcome new members. The time was pleasantly wliiled away with dancing and novel competitions, interspersed with items which were given by Minna Mays, Reta McCullay, Freda Crosher, Tony Martinengo, Victor Pearson, James Sharp, Dick Sellars and Ray Grace. A dainty supper was served, after which dancing was continued, and among those present were Mesdamos B. Kissin (hostess), J. H. Wilson, L. J. Blackie, L. Turvey, Mays, E. M. Ford, B. C. Brown, Tremain, and Opperman. Misses P. Warren, G. Warren, E. Judson, M. Kyle, C. Green, P. Roads, Vora Kissin, Zara Morris (Hawera), Mary Beck, Betty Ryan and l>. Hays.
A five hundred tournament organised by the Richmond Rovers Football Club was held on Wednesday evening at the Grey Lynn Bowling Club'e pavilion. Prizes were won by Miss Katlt Kobinson and Mrs. Reith, Mr. 11. G. Ellice and Mr. E. Heath. The combined prize was won by Mr. Irvine, the hidden numbers by Mrs. Brady and Mr. T. Mills, and the consolation by Mrs. Ellice and Mr. C. Copeland. Among those present were: Mesdames Hattaway, Ellice, Dick, Brady, Mincham, Reavey, Reith, Davis, House, Robinson, Farmer, Cossar, Ellis, Soffe, Burke, Davidson, Sullivan, Beagles, Sanders, C. Verrall, Bryant, Misees Betty Kemp, L. May, Noone, J. Dick and K. Eobinson.
The first of a series of monthly socials which are to be given by the Auckland Outboard Racing Club and tho New Zealand Power Boat Association was held on Thursday, in the clubrooms in King's Drive. There was a large attendance, and the rooms were decorated with bowls of hydrangeas and Iceland poppies. Among those present were: Mrs. Mac Queen, who wore a frock of pink windswept velvet; Mrs. Eric Craig, black net; Mrs. C. R. Wilson, powder blue georgette; Mrs. J. L. Rough, pink georgette; Mrs...M. Wright, flame windswept satin; Mrs. R. Mouatt, Burgundy georgette; Miss Cicely Wain, wine velvet; Miss Emson, leaf green patterned georgette; Miss B. Lee, black ring velvet; Mies G. Jeffrey, ivory, lace; Miss G. Bartley, green crinkle crepe; Miss Betty; Lane, powder blue ring velvet; Miss Mardi 33r00k, black georgette; Miss J. Graham, shell pink souple satin; Miss W. K. Hurley, turquoise angel skin lace; Miss N. Lane, primrose and gold georgette. ■■■
