APPEAL FOR BOOKS.
MAYORESS' LIBRARY LEAGUE
An appeal is made by the Mayoress 1 War Memorial Library League, through the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, for supplies of second-hand books and ' magazines. These may cither be addressed to the secretary of the league at the Town Hall, or put into the boxes that are distributed around the city for that purpose. For many years citizens have kept these boxes well filled, and supplies have been sufficient to meet normal requirements, but with the advent of the unemployment relief camps the demand on the leamie has increased to such, an extent that an insufficient number is coming in to fill requirements, and the league's reserve stock is now entirely depleted. The books that are sent in are repaired by league workers, representing a number of women's organisations, and while this work proceeds quietly and ,-without much publicity, a vast amount •of labour has been involved, which can only be appreciated by those who have intimate knowledge of the work of the league. It is felt that it is only necessary to make known to the citizens that supplies are urgently required to ensure their prompt co-operation in forwarding all unwanted books and magazines for distribution by the league.
