Gadd Goes Twice Round in 140 Strokes.

TWO COURSE RECORDS AT DEAL

(Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 26. Second round aggregates in the British open golf championship on the Sandwich and Deal courses include:— Bert Gadd, 140. Alliss, Cotton, and James Adams, 141. E. Storey and Fairweathcrj 143. D. Martin and Laidlaw, 144. Padgham, 145. E. Whitcombe and Boomer, 146. C. Whitcombe and Bradbeer, 147. Macdonald Smith (U.S.A.), E. Whitcombe and Eobson, 148. Shute (U.S.A., holder of title), Easterbrook, Jolly, Mitchell and Dailey, 149. Kirkwood and Sarazen (U.S.A., the latter was 1932 winner, of the title), and Eex Hartley, 150. Hodson, 151. Lester Hartley, Twine, McLean and Perry, 152. Kenyon and King, 153. Lacey and Compston, 154. Bourn, 155. Havers, Braid and Denny, 157. Wallace, Duncan and Hon. Michael Scott, 160. Eay and Herd, 101. Dr. Carew-Nott (Adelaide), 165. One hundred and two players with scores of 152, or better, qualified for the championship proper. James Adams and Alliss, with 67, beat the course record at Deal.

Gadd's aggregate is five less than in any previous qualifying rounds. Critics emphasise the gratifying display of British golfers, revealing stroke saving on the greens. The winner in 1032, when -Hie championship was played at the* Prince s Golf Club, Sandwich, was Gene Sarazen (USA), with the record total ot ASS. In' 1933, when the venue was bt.
