EMPIRE DEFENCE.
EX-SOLDIERS' RESOLUTION.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Following a sharp debate, the conference of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association to-night passed the following resolution:— "That this council sincerely appreciates the efforts of the British Government to secure world-wide peace and prays for continued labour in this direction. It considers, however, that the great disparity in armaments of the United Kingdom and the Dominions, as compared with those of others Powers, is such that the security of the Empire is imperilled. "Further, the state of the defence forces in New Zealand to-day is causing grave concern. It therefore urges the New Zealand Government, in consultation with the Empire authorities, to take such measures as will ensure the Dominion being reasonably insured by the adequacy, both in strength and efficiency, of its air, sea and land forces, and to prepare a plan for the compulsory co-operation of the whole country's resources should mobilisation become necessary."
