PRIZE-WINNING DESIGNS.

LAY-OUT OF SPORTS AREA.

The prize of £25 offered by the Onchunga Borough Council for the best plan for' the lay-out of the Geddes Basin reserve is to bo equally divided between two competitors bearing the nom-de-plumo of "Spars and Meloria" and "Felix." The names of the successful competitors were not disclosed at the meeting of the council last night. . The first design makes provision for football, cricket, hockey and basketball "round, several tennis courts, large spaces for the parking of cars,- a grandstand and a half-mile motor racing track fircumscribed by a tier of terraces for further seating accommodation. Exits and entrances are provided from Selwyn, O'Rorke and Queen Streets and Wharf Road. A quarter-mile running track is also proposed. The design submitted by "Felix" provides for three football or cricket areae, one hockey ground, a running track of 440 yards, and a motor racing track half a mile in circumference and 30 yards wide, surrounded by terraced seating accommodation sufficient for-20,000 spectators A feature of this design is the provision of a swimming bath to the Westward, immediately outside but adjoining tlie basin area proper.
