POLICE RAID.

OPIUM MATERIAL SEIZED. TWO CHINESE FINED. La<?t night Detectives Brady, Hayefi, Gilluni and Miller raided a Chinese house in Grey Avenue, arrested two men and seized some material which was need for opium smoking. This morning two Chinese appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court. Low On, aged 32, was charged with being the occupier cf premises at 30, Grey Avenue, used for the smoking of opium, and also with being found in possession of prepared opium. Mr. «T. .TV Sullivan appeared for accused, who admitted both charges. Mr. Sullivan said Low On was a sick man who smoked opium only to alleviate, his suffering. Only a small quantity of opium was found. Low On had never before been in trouble. The minimum fines were imposed. £50, or three months' imprisonment, on the first charge, and £25 on the second. Allan Luni On, aged 34, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found without lawful excuse on the same premises. Mr. Sullivan explained that this accused was merely visiting Low On, and was not smoking. A fine of £20 was imposed. Constable Smells Opium. The smoke which Ah Charlie (29) was enjoying on the night of June 20, when Constable Allen arrested him, proved a dear one. This accused was charged with being found in possession of prepared opium, using premises at 125, Grey Avenue, for iho purpose of smoking opium and also having in his possession utensils for the smoking of opium.

He was fined £25 on each of the first and third charges, tho 'second charge being withdrawn. . .

Chong On, also found in the same house by the constable, Avas fined £12 10/ for being found on tho premises without lawful excuse, and £25 for being in possession of prepared opium.
