AUCKLAND WELCOME.
MISS BATTEN APPRECIATIVE,
LEAVES FOR SOUTH TO-DAY
Warm appreciation of the cordial welcome given her by the people of her home city was expressed by Miss Jean Batten to-day. "I am tremendously thrilled with the splendid reception I have received," said the young aviatrix. Since her arrival in Auckland yesterday Miss Batten has been inundated with * messages of good will from all parts of New Zealand. In addition she has been in almost constant demand on the telephone.
This morning Miss Batten was entertained by former school friends at the Lyceum Club, and this afternoon she visited the Hobsouville air base. She will leave Auckland by train to-night for Wellington, where she will be the guest of the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe for several days. Details of her Dominion tour as the guest of the Government will be decided at the week-end. Until this programme has been finalised Miss Batten is unable to say when she will return to Auckland, but she intends to spend some time here when she does come back.
The aeroplane in which Miss Batten made her solo ilight from England to Australia is at present on view on the premises of Milne and Choyce, Ltd., Queen Street.
