NO PERMIT?
WRESTLER AND POLICE. DETTON OUT OF FAVOUR. It is understood that Dean Detton, the American heavy-weight wrestler, is out of favour with the police as the result of his exhibition at the Town Hall last night. A rumour that he and George Walker had been rematched for Saturday next was officially denied this afternoon, and it was hinted that even if the Auckland Wrestling Association wanted to stage the return match the police would not sign the permit.
Detton last night used a new variety of attack known as the "drop kick," and to such good effect that he had Walker groggy. When Walker was lying face down on the mat the American jumped on him with both feet, and followed thie up with a couple of kicks to the body. When the referee ordered him away Detton swung his arm and etruck the official on the face with the back of his hand, for which breach he was immediately disqualified. Immediately after Detton had kicked his fallen opponent Inspector Hollis, the senior police officer present at the Town Hall, rose from his seat and made towards the ring, but before he had attracted the attention of the referee that official had been hit and Detton had been disqualified. It does not seem likely that Detton will be allowed to wrestle in Auckland in the immediate future, but it is hoped by hie supporters that any embargo at present against him will be lifted before the end of the season. It is known that Mr. G. Henning, president of the ■wrestling association, conferred with Inspector Hollia this morning , .
