THE DEATH SENTENCE.

As we in New Zealand claim to be trying to work for the good of humanity, it is time that a determined effort were made to induce the Government to abolish the death sentence. Since the law of "cause and effect" will, in God's own time, cause all to "reap as they have sown," it is obviously not our duty to seek to punish. All criminals, even murderers, are sick, mentally and spiritually, and while treatment of such niust include varying degrees of restraint there remains ample scope to educate, help or reform.
