ACTION IN FIJI. FOREIGN PIECE GOODS. NOTICE TO IMPORTERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, June 20. The Fiji Government is acting promptly to enforce the threat of the British Government to impose a quota on the imports of foreign cotton goods in the colonies. A proclamation lias boon published that all piece goods which contain less than 50 per cent of British material in cotton or artificial silk, or both, are to be prohibited, while another announcement is that all such piece goods will only be admitted by a quota, and importers are invited to advise the Customs of their importations of. same during the years 1927 to 19:31, so that their quota may be iixed.

The local market is flooded with cheap foreign piece goods, chiefly from Japan, and storekeepers, especially the small Indian merchants, dislike buying the higher-priced British goods.
