NORTHCOTE CHURCH.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. SPECIAL SERVICES HELD. His Grace, Archbishop Averill, was the preacher at the morning service at St. John the Baptist Church at Northcote on Sunday on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the church, which is the oldest on the North Shore. The Archbishop congratulated those associatd with the church on passing another milestone in tho history of the parish, and particularly welcomed the representatives of old members of the parish. He hoped as the church grew in years it would gather strength and worthily reflect the characters of its pioneers and of that great founder and dedicator, Bishop Selwyn. Tho lessons were read by Mr. P. Minns, churchwarden, and by the vicar, the Rev. F. W. Wilkes. The organist waa Mr. William Newman. The Rev. W. Netana Panapa, Diocesan Maori missioner, was the preacher last evening, when the service was choral. Amongst those present were Mr. I. H. Creamer, who was present at the first service, and Mr. John C. Taylor, who has been associated with the church since 1871. The transept, which was added to the church in 1882, while the Rev. F. G. Evans was vicar, and which was dedicated by Bishop Cowie, was built by Mr. Taylor with, the assistance of Mr. Charlie Johnston, and the last shingling job Mr. Taylor did was the roof of this church. The first Sunday school teacher was Mrs. Bateman, daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Houghton Bartley, speaker in the Auckland Provincial Council.
