GREAT SOUTH ROAD.
BEAUTIFYING PLANS
The Great South Road Beautifying Society last night gave consideration to beautifying the Papakura Recreation Reserve, and it was decided to erect a fence inside the existing boundary and to plant treee, at a cost of about £8.
The Manukau County Council is to be a,sk«d to clean up and prepare for tree planting a section on the northern end of Takani.ni. An offer from Mr. W. Wilcox of hydrangeas was accepted, and Messrs. Leonard and Willis were asked to arrange for planting.
Mr. Leonard asked if nothing could be done to beautify the frontage of the police station at Great South Road, Otahuhu. It was decided to write to the Minister of Justice drawing his attention to the work being done by the society, and asking his co-operation. Mr. Butterworth offered the society 200 native seedlings for planting on the southern side of the Tamaki River bank when permission wa-s given by the owner. The chairman, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, complimented members on their enthusiasm and remarked that they had laid out quite a big programme for the coming season. "When you drive along the highway you may not notice -what has been done, but when you come to examine the work you are surprised at the of it," lie said.
