TRANSPORT CONTROL.
MOKE CO-ORDINATION NEEDED • (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Monday. At to-day'e meeting of the Franklin County Council Mr. J- Henry, in remarking on a letter received from the Transport Control Board, dealing with improved transport control, advocated a revision of heavy traffic license fees. He . stated that under the present system the farmer who operated a motor truck. for the sole purpose of carrying manures and other necessities for his farm was required to pay the same fees as the general carrier. The chairman, Mr. J. N. Massey, MP said what was necessary for improved control of transport was more co-ordination between rail, road and coastal shipping services. Mr. Massey thought cream contractors should remain 0 exempt from taxation. Too many cases of overlapping were evident, and it should >°: possible to have one carrier only, covering each territory, irrespective" of which dairy company the farmers supplied. The council decided to act upon the suggestion* put forward- when replying to the board.
