BURGLARS ACTIVE.
WHILE MAIDS SLEPT. SILVER CUPS CARRIED OFF. DOOR OF ROOM LEFT OPEN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The residence of Gibson Stott, Hobson Street, was entered between midnight and one o'clock yesterday morning. A quantity of silver, which the thieves wrapped in a hall rug, was stolen.
Two maids and two children were asleep in the liouee. When Mr. Stott and his wife arrived home they noticed that eomething was amiss. The -tolen goods consisted mostly of cups which Mr. Stott won at school, also a large clock. The thieves were probably disturbed, ae other silver articles were not touched.
Entry was apparently gained through the dining room door, which was accidentally lelt unlocked. The thieves must have watched the house till the lights were extinguished/at 11.4-5 by a maid, who, finding the window of the washhouee open before she retired, made a hurried search of the house, but did not try the dining room door.
