HARRIERS.
PATTERSON CUP.
On Saturday the Hamilton and Calliope Harrier Clubs met lor the tilth Uinu to contest the l'atterson Cup. Tiie race this year was held in the Waikato centre and was over a distance of 07, miles 34 men computing, 19 from the Calliope Club and lo ot the local club. The race started off at a fast pace, Ready and Lindsay (Hamilton) and Clayton (Calliope) taking the lead trom Gardiner and bkeet (Hamilton) and Clow (Calliope). At the emi of the first lap Lindsay • was leading Keady, Skeel, Clow, Gardiner, Clayton and Cook witu Chappell, lleutloy, V. allucu, Charman and Wouu next.
On the. second and final lap, Lindsay increased his lead, but the leauiug positions remained practically the same. The linish was:—Lindsay (U), 31.5, 1; A. 13. Clow (C), 32.5 a, 2 ;• G. Keady (H) and L. Skeet (H), dead-heat, 33.20, 3; A. Ji. Clayton (C), 34.3, 5; A. Cooke (H), 34.18, (i; J. Gardiner (H), 34.20, 7; 11. Chappell (C), 31.47, S; K Bentley (C), 9; R. Wallace (C), 10; W. Charmun (C), 11; H. Wood (H), 12; N. Shorter (C), 13; S. Roberts (C), 14; L. Gee (C), 10; E. Turner (C), 10; J. Sniedley (HJ, 17; M. Steel (C), IS; A. Davis (C) and R. Drummond (C), deadheat, 10. Oa the places of the first 15 of each club to finish, Calliope came out winners by 258 points to 180 (highest wins). Previous winners of the cup arc :—11)30, 1931 and 1032, Hamilton ; 1033 and 11)31, Calliope.
In the evening tho visitors were entertained at a social and dance by the Hamilton Club, when the cup was presented to the captain of the Calliope Club, A. E. Clayton, by Mr. S. Oliver, of the Hamilton Harrier Club.
A noticeable feature of the race was the excellent team work of the visitors, and tills was no doubt largely Instrumental in Calliope's victory. I'. Lindsay, of Hamilton, put up a splendid run for the home club and his time of 31.S for such a course proves him < very lit mini. G. Ready and L. SUeer, of Hamilton, also ran well, while of the visitors A. Clow wan the outstanding performer. Hv Chappell also ran surprisingly well.
LYNNDALE CLUB. On Saturday Hie Lynndalo Harrier Club hold a road run of r>l miles, Btartlng from the Avondalo racecourse. A loOyds sprint hold before Iho run resulted as follows:—First hoat: Dolsin 1, McCombie 2, Heron 3. Second heat: Crompton 1, Hnllidiiy 2, Briggs :i. Final: J. Dnlnn 1, R. Crolnpto.n 2, G. Heron 8. Dolan won by Inches, with Heron the same distance back third, in the finest finish seen tins year. The last live members are all experienced runners, who, with the Drat two mentioned, will malic a formidable learn, and should, If they can reproduce the form already shown this season, put Lynndule well up in the teams race. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS. The harriers of the Technical College Old Boys' Athletic Club held a run ou Saturday from the home of the club harrier captain, Mr. T. M. Wilson, Mount Smart Itoad, Onehunga. J. Swindells 0, J. Hunter 0. At the conclusion of the run the club selector, Mr. Alwyn Moon, announced the following teams for the Onehunga-Aueklaud road race:— A. —L. C. Barker (captain), J. PRESBYTERIAN B.C. CLUB. Thirty-one members of the Presbyterian Bible Class Harrier Club attended the /fun from the residence of Mr. \V. Rushbrook, vice-president, at Takapuna. Bacon and Kitchener laid the trail. Two packs under MacKinnon and Boyd left in advance, while the ten entrants for next week's road race were divided into two sections. Results of the runs-in were :— Fast Pack.— J. I. B. Neil 1, J. Ilolden 2, A. J. Wllderspin 3, R. Linfoot 4, W. Ross and J. E. Edwards 5. Intermediate Pack.—ll. B. Pidgeon 1, .T. K, Boyd 2, A. PAPATOETOE CLUB. After a five-mile run the pack helrl a run in, over 120 yards, which resulted ns follows: — J. Bolder, Byds 1 K. French, 10yds 2 S. Andrew, Byds ;. 3 UNIVERSITY CLUB. The University Club held a run from the home of Mr. P. W. McCallum on Saturday, over a course in the Mount Albert and Point Chevalier districts. The course was about five miles in length. A run-in of 300 yards was held at the conclusion, the limit men again showing up well. Results were: —J. Holmes (33yds) 1, 11. R. Bagrie (55yds) 2, G. B. .Tones (35yds) 3, J. P. Csstello (35yds) 4, N. B. Blakey (55yds) 5, A. D. Thompson (10yds) and C. K. Becroft (25yds) 6. WESLEY CLUB. Ideal weather conditions favoured the running of the novice championship from the Mount Albert Grammar School. The 12 entrants followed a laid trail oft four miles. The result was:—T. flfanoah, time 20.31, 1; T. Spooner, 26.36, 2; L. Wattam, 2C.41, 3. The team chosen for the OnehungaAuckland road race Is as follows: — M. Hewitson, S. Cole, A. Thrift, M. Green, A. Winstone, It. Skyrme, and A. Graham (emergency).
