MANUREWA GALA DAY.
AID OF DENTAL CLINIC. Manurewa residents in almost full number supported a gala and fair held on Saturday. It was organised by the school committee with help from a strong committee of people interested in thp retention and upkeep of the local dental clinic. As a result, a profit of £30 was made. The Pukekohe Municipal Band, under Bandmaster Holt, headed a procession of children in fancy dress with decorated bicycles and prams, which marched to the school grounds. Mr. Jacob Elliot, of the Health Department, congratulated the committees responsible for organising such a splendid gathering in the interests of the clinic, and he declared the fair open for business. Mr. A. Whatford, chairman of the dental clinic committee, also spoke. Mr. J. Edwards, chairman of the newly formed Manurewa Brass Band, in welcoming the Pukekohe Band, thanked the conductor and members for the {jood fellowship which prompted the visit. A football match played between Drury and Manurewa was won by Drury by 13 points to 11. Competitions resulted as follow:— Best dressed girl: Dorothy Lucas. Most original costume: Beverley Brown 1. Marjory Montgomery 2. Beet dressed boy: Adrian Donaldson. Most original: J. Young. Decorated pram.: Dorothy Hooker 1, Norma Dee 2. Decorated bicycle: Graham Kilduff 1, Keith Sheldon 2. Queens' competition: Homai Twins, 1926 votes, 1; Manurewa, 1200, 2. Baby competition: Baby Cleary 1. Judges: Mesdames Silk, Elliott, and McLuckie. The judges of the fancy dress events were Mesdames J. Elliott and Silk and Miss Jeffs. The secretary of the echool committee is Mr. H. Wright, and of the dental clinic committee Mr. David Peebles. The ladies in charge of the various stalls included Mesdames Jacob Elliott. J. Phillips, Rees. Seymour, Hayden, F. Cleaver, A. L. Denize, Hawkins, J. M. Peebles. In charge of the tearooms were Mesdames J. Kerr, David Peebles, T. E. Browne, Sheldon, Guthrie, and Misses H. Kerr, I. Chrietopher, and Doris Watts. To these and others the thanks of the organisers were expressed, and especially to Mrs. Andrew Guthrie, of Homai. The Pukekohe Band were heartily cheered as they left.
