AORANGI IN PORT.
CALM TASMAN CROSSING. DISTINGUISHED PASSENGERS. The Union Steam Ship Company's liner Aorangi arrived in Auckland at seven o'clock this morning, after a calm crossing from Sydney. Two aeroplanes escorted her up the harbour, in honour of her distinguished passenger, Miss Jean Batten. The vessel was gaily "dressed" with bunting and flags, while a band and a large crowd on the wharf made the arrival something out of the ordinary. In addition to Miss Jean Batten there were several other prominent passengers. Mr. C. T. P. Ulni and Mr. G. U. Allen have arrived to pilot the Faith in Australia back to Australia shortly. Mr. Stronach- Paterson, managing director of A. S. Paterson and Company, Wellington, returned from a business visit to Australia. He is accompanied by Mrs. Paterson. Mr. H. H. Sterling, chairman of the New Zealand Railways Board, has returned after nine weeks in Australia on business. Mr. L, J. Cliarnock, a director of an English worsted spinning mill, landed in Auckland, and will spend some months in the Dominion on business. Major Hood-Dye, of the East African Medical Service, is a through passenger. He is accompanied b L:s wife. Mr. H. M.
