BIRKENHEAD ORPHANS.

OPENING OF SESSION. The opening gathering of the eleventh session of the iJirkenhead and Northcolc Orphans' Club was well attended, and was greatly enjoyed. A cordial welcome to Dr. J. W. Craven, life member and past president, and also to tho new conductor of the orchestra, Mr. Charles Howard, was extended by the president, Mr. K. 11. Hayman, and ho also conveyed appreciation of the services of Mr. R. G. Holland as president for two years. The, various items were well received, and comprised selections by the orchestra, violin solos by Mr. M. W. Dihvorth, [humour by Mr. George Chivere, Mute solos by Mi , . T. Kenderdiue, songs by Messrs. Ron. Jenkins, S. Evans and J. H. Pawsey, and magic and mystery by Mr. R. H. F. Grace. The accompaniments were played by Mr. R. Salt.
