CENTENARY TRANSPORT.
SOUTH ISLAND BEQUEST,

DUNEDIN, this day,
With the object of endeavouring to arrange for a direct passenger service between the South Island and Melbourne during the Centenary celebrations, the Mayor communicated with four Australian shipping • companies, the Melbourne Steamship Co., Mcllwraith and McEachern, Melbourne, the Adelaide Steamship Co. and the Australian Steamship Proprietary. All have replied that they have 110 suitable vessels available for such a service.
