RAILWAY RESTORED.
FAEROA-TE AROHA SECTION. NORMAL SERVICES RESUME. Repairs to the flooded section of the railway line between To Aroha and Paeroa were completed early last evening, and the first train in 36 hours to go through left Paeroa for Frankton at 8.12 p.m., passing through Te Aroha shortly before nine. Passengers by this train were able to join the Limited for Wellington at Frankton, while for those coming north a carriage was attached to a goods train which arrived at Auckland early this morning. Another train left Te Aroha at 9 o'clock for Tauranga, taking about 20 passengers. At the height of the flood, the waters of the Waihou River covered the line between Tirohia and Waitoki to a depth of over 2ft, and washed away the ballast from about a mile of the track. As trains were able to run on each side of the flooded sections, repair gangs started work from both ends as soon as the water began to subside early yesterday afternoon, that working from the Te Aroha end using ballast brought by a train dispatched from Wiri at 6.30 a.m. yesterday.
Normal schedules are now being maintained.
