AUCKLAND CHESS.

LIGHTNING TOURNEY TO-NIGHT. At a meeting of the executive committee of the Auckland Chess Club it was decided to enter a team for the North Island versus South Island telegraphic match. The date has not yet been fixed. The teams will be 30 a side and the contest will take two nights. A visitors' night has been arranged at the clubrooms for this evening, when a lightning tourney will be conducted. Ihis will not be a knock-out, as in the past. A specified number of games will be announced at the commencement of play and the plaver winning the most number of games will be declared champion for the night and will be awarded a special prize. The supper hostesses will be Mrs. (Dr.) Short and Mrs. Thorpe.
