ON THE AIR.
" STAR'S " ENTERPRISE.
SPONSORS IZM.
Valuable Community Service.
" Tlie Auckland Star" has always been a pioneer in up-to-date journalism in New Zealand, and its wide popularity is largely due to its efforts to promote the interests of all sections of the public. The latest example of this enterprise is to be found in arrangements completed this week to finance tlie Manure waß Broadcasting Station, known as IAM. The decision of the Government to prohibit sponsored programmes from the end of March last, because of the flagrant abuse of the regulations in some quarters, left the B stations with precarious sources of revenue. In some cases they have gone off the air, and others will be forced to do so. Convinced that the B stations provide a useful link in the broadcasting chain, "The Auckland Star" investigated the position, and decided to give the popular Manurewa station financial backing, so that it will be able to continue.
It is not the intention to alter the constitution of the station, but it is hoped to increase in number the band of enthusiasts, which has been directly associated with IZM by membership. At the same time all avenues calculated to improve the standard of its service will be explored. Especially is the management desirous of giving the outback farmer what he will find most valuable.
There is no question of financial benefit, but the newspaper hopes to gain an added good will from its latest effort to develop a community service that will be both instructive and entertaining.
