APPEAL FOR CHILDREN
MBS. K. O'SUI/liIVAN'S EFFORT. An appeal for funds for the poor children of the Dominion is being launched by Mrs. Kitty O'Sullivan, known as the " modern grandmother,"' who intends to ride a bicycle from Spirits Bay to the Bluff. Mrs. O'Sullivan attracted considerable attention last year, when she was 52 years of age and a grandmother, for her feat in walking the entire lengtii of tlie two islands. She intends this time to use a bicycle, which, she says, will be much easier than walking. At each town she will address residents and make an appeal on behalf of the children. The money collected in each district will remain for distribution in that district. She hopes to begin a "silver trail" and leave the subsequent organisation of the funds to committees to be elected in each town in the Dominion. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, in a favourable reply to Mrs. O'Sullivan's request for help, stated. " .... as Mrs. O'Sullivan's work is already well known, her effort is worthy of public support. I shall be pleased to arrange with the Auckland Metropolitan Unemployment Relief Committee to undertake the distribution of funds raised in Auckland."
