CORNER FOR BUSY BEES.

WOOLLY GLOVES FOR WINTER. A SIMPLE PATTERN. (Conducted by TINKERBELL.) Dear Girls, — Knitted gloves are rather the fashion just at present. A few days ago I saw a little girl looking very gay and coay in a red knitted rig-out, complete even to red gloves. The instructions for knitting these gloves .re given below, and I am certain you hould have no difficulty in making hem. You will need loz of 3-ply Scotch iDgering wool and 4 No. 16 steel -scales (5 inches). The measurements oi the gloves are: Length 6in, width ernes palm 2j|in. Work at a tension o produce 11 stitchcs to one inch in widih and 16 iows to one inch in depth. Cast on 54 stitches (18 stitches on each of three needles) then work round wiih the fourth needle in knit 1 and purl 1 rib for two inches in depth.

Change and knit p'.ain for one inch. Slip first 9 stitches of round on to a piece of woe! and leave for thumb. Cast on 12 stitches in place of these and knit to end of round. "There are now 57 stitches. Continue for one inch more, then work fingers as follows:— First Finger: Knit first 9 stitches of round, slip next 40 stitches on to a piece of wool, cast on 3 stitches and knit remaining 8 stitches. Divide these 20 stitches between three needles and knit for 1J inches. Next round: Knit 2 together all round. Cut wool, thread "°n a needle and pass through remaining stitches tightly, then darn in end neatly. Second Finger: Knit 7 stitches from front of wool, cast on 3 stitches, take 7 stitches from back end of wool, then knit these, pick up and knit 3 cast-on stitches at bottom of first finger. Divide stitches between three needles and work for 12 inches. Finish as before. Third Finger: Knit 6 stitches from front of wool, cast on 2, take 6 from back of wool and knit these, pick up' 3 cast-on at bottom of second finger. Divide stitches between three needles and work for 1 a inches. Finish as before. Fourth Finger: Knit remaining 14 stitches and pick up 2 stitches cast on at bottom of third finger. Divide stitches between three needles and work for 1 £ inches. Finish as before. The Thumb: Knit 9 stitches left on wool, pick up 12 cast-on stitches and, after dividing between three needles, work for 1J inches. Finish as before. Press with a warm iron and damp cloth. Make another glove to match by slipping last 9 stitches of the round on to a piece of wool for thumb instead of first. Also begin fingers by knitting first 8 and last 9 for the first finger instead of first 9 and last 8.
