AUSTRALIAN POTATO EMBARGO. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The recommendation that the embargo against the entrance of New Zealand potatoes to Australia should be removed has created a general feeling of satisfaction in the trade. The present rate in Sydney tor best varieties is up to £8 a ton, and for ordinary varieties £6 to £6 10/. As there is a duty of £2 10/ a ton, and the potatoes have to be put in now sacks before shipment, the Sydney price would have to increase to about £10 a ton before growers would be able to export and obtain more than tho price now ruling locally. Tho Waipiata is loading at Lyttelton to-day. and it is expected that she will take from 2000 to 3000 sacks, in addition to 1775 from Timarti. Prices arc practically unchanged from last week-end. June values are £3 17/6 f.0.b., sacks included, or to £2 15/ on trucks. Fowl wheat is firm at 3/3, f.0.b., sacks extra. Chaff is worth £4, f.0.b., sacks included, or £2 10/ on trucks.
