Two years ago a couple oE magpies owned by Mr. W. Raine, a, Consett, County Durham, naturalist, vanished from their cage. Recently residents in the little old farm village of Castleside, near Consett, were amazed to find that two magpies had built their nest just outside the house now occupied by Mr. Raine. They are the same birds that; vanished two yeai-s ago. They are now the pets of the whole village, instead of being the pets of one man. 1
