ON 'CHANGE.

BUSINESS IS BETTER. N.Z, INSURANCES STEADY. Business on the Auckland Stock Exchange was still fairly quiet at the opening call to-day, and only four sales "ivere finalised. The banking and insurance sections showed little change since yesterday, and the bidding continued to reveal a considerable gap between buyers and sellers. (Quotations were lower for Bank of New Zealand's, with buyers stopping at £2 8/, while holders were asking £2 0/, and Commercials were again quoted at 16/ and 16/3. New Zealand Insurances were steady at the level of late sales, and offers were unchanged. There was a rise of 3d in Auckland Gas contributing shares yesterday afternoon, and this has been reflected in an advance of buyers to 19/4.

l)o von port Ferries, readjusted after the pavment of the dividend, were to be had to-day for £1 3/3, but there were no buyers.

■ Mining shares remained quiet. Holders of Waihis came in at' £1 12/9, with buyers still at £1 12/.

There was a larger offering of local body debentures, mainly of the Auckland Harbour Board, but the prices asked were apparently unattractive to investors.

Market Brightens Up. During the morning the market brightened up, and ten transactions were completed at noon with values steady and with a firmer tendency.

Commercial Banks were close to late sales at 16/1%, and New Zealand Insurances, Bycroft's and Auckland Gas were unchanged. Latest quotations for Bycroft's were keen at £2 8/ and £2 8/3. Buyers of JDevonport berries came in at £1 2'/. . Bidding was better for Waihi Mines, and Drought buyers and sellers close together at £1 12/3 and £1 12/6. SAI*ES COMPLETES. AT THE 3.15 P.m.
