SIR L FERGUSON.

DIRECTOR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL.

The University Council yesterday afternoon appointed Sir Lindo Ferguson Director of the Otago Medical School. His new designation will be Dean of the Medical Faculty and Director of the School of Medicine. Sir Lindo has been Dean of the Medical Faculty for 20 years and has served on the University Council for nearly 50 years. In submitting the formal motion, Dr. James Fitzgerald said this was the- 50th year since Sir Lindo Ferguson had inaugurated special eye, ear, nose and throat departments in the Dunedin Hospital. As a consultant his reputation was Dominion-wide, Australian-wide and was respected in Great Britain and on the Continent. Through his wise foresight and statesmanship, the Medical School in Dunedin was known and respected the world over, and one of the latest recognitions was that the primary examination for physiology and anatomy required for the English Fellowship was to bo held in Dunedin in October.
