WELL-MATCHED TEAMS.
RODNEY A'S GOOD POSITION,
The afternoon portion of the Country Week tournament was played under wretched ground conditions vesterrlnand not only did the. players have great difficulty in maintaining a foothold but upon several occasions the ball was almost lost in the mud.
Tho standard of play suffered, but the players took the conditions in good spirit and. putting plenty of effort into their work, provided excitement for the spectators.
The best of the men's matches was provided by the old rivals, Rodney A and Waipa. In a very hard fought and closely contested game Rodney A won by one goal to nil, and in defeating the holders of the White Horse Cup have greatly strengthened their own position at the head of affairs.
In the ladies provincial cup the greatest interest was centred in the ThamesAuckland A game. The muddy conditions robbed the play of many fine movements but the Thames, working the left, brought off a clever piece that gave them a solitary goal and victory. The competition in both sections was resumed this morning. Yesterday's results:—• WHITE HORSE CUP. Third Hound. Rodney A 1 (,T. The Tauranga Hockey Association continued the men's competition yesterday afternoon in showery weather, when True Blues defeated Hovers by 7 goals to 2. Triers defaulted to Veterans. Owing to the ladies' representatives cornpeting in the Auckland tournament no games were played In the ladies' competition.
