STRICKLAND BEATS LUTTRELL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The professional heavy-weight boxing title for New Zealand was at stake here last night in a bout between V. Luttrell (Hastings), 12.10, and M. Strickland (Wellington), 12.12. Luttrell was knocked out early in the ninth round. Ray Nicol (Invercargill), holder of the title, was to have fought Luttrell, but Nicol was unable to fight because of a boil on an arm, and he voluntarily forfeited the title.

It was a poor bout and Luttrell only lasted so long because he was very fit.

In the professional feather-weight bout C Hurne (Wellington), 8.8, beat P. Hawes (Christchurch), 8.10, on points. It was a very even fight: The title was not at stake,
