IN ST. JAMES' NEW FILM. Robert Montgomery, in the role of N.ick Revel, gentleman crook, is starred in a picture dealing with a series of' gruesome murders in .London, " Mystery of Mr. X," which opens to-morrow at the St. James' Theatre. Elizabeth Allan plays the role of Jane Frensham, beautiful daughter of Sir Herbert. Frensham, Scotland Yard head. Lewis Stone, " aristocrat of the screen," enacts the role of Connor, super-sleuth and wiliest member of Scotland Yard's experts.. Henry Stephenson, in the role of Sir Herbert Frensham, is the kindly, convalescent head of Scotland Yard and father of Jane. Round his venerable grey head centres the criticism and intrigue attendant upon the outrageous murders ot London police. The story concerns Sir Herbert Frensham, who returns from a convalescing trip to the Continent to find London up at arms over the mysterious murders of policemen at the hands of a fiend signing himself as "X" in audacious articles sent to the newspapers. The murders are perpetrated at the same time that Revel, suave gentleman crook, steals the famous Drayton diamond. Revel plans to aid quietly in the capture of " X." plant the diamond on his body, and claim the insurance company reward. To accomplish this lie meets Frensham through his charming daughter Jane. He falls in love with Jane and convinces father that his plan for capturing "X " has merit. Connor thinks the plan has too much merit for an amateur, and thereafter reaches out the law's long arm toward the engaging thief. Romance is mingled with suspense and mystery in the final scenes, which lead to a totally unexpected climax.

The St. James* programme also includes the first series of a fresh news service of neivsreels. an Ely Culbertson feature on "What Not to Do in Bridge," and a eolourtone musical revue entitled "Koast Beef and the Movies."
