W.C.T.U.

DEVONPORT. On Wednesday afternoon a drawing room meeting in connection with the Devonport Women's Christian Temperance Union was lield at the residence of Mrs. H. Hoverd, Mozley Avenue. Mrs. Williams presided. Mrs. Benfeld, the speaker for the afternoon, took for her subject "What can the W.C.T.U. do to improve present economic conditions?" She asked those present to take their minds back to the beginning of the last century to see what women had done in the past. By their determined efforts they had attained a position where they had a right to express their opinions. The struggle of the pioneers was all in vain if women of to-day were content to drift along without a protest. Votes of thanks were passed to the speaker and to the hostess.
