OTAHUHU COUNCIL.
The Otahuhu Borough Council met last night, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding.
Fire Prevention.—The Manukau County Council forwarded an agreement renewing lire protection by the borough for the Mangere riding.
Footpath Maintenance.—The Auckland Gas Company submitted an extensive scheme for maintaining the footpaths, the formation to be spread over a number of years, the cost to be £148 per mile for a 4ft path. Referred to works committee for report. Great South Road Beautifying Society.— A donation of £2 2/ was passed to the society. ' Princes Street.—The foreman was instructed to prepare and report an estimate for the formation of a six-foot footpath in Princes' Street from the Great South Road to Seaside Park. Old Plant at Pumping Station.—lt was decided to accept £30 for part of this plant. Station Road Scction—lt was decided to accept an oli'er of £200 each for sections 8 and 9, these sections having been bought in recently by the council at a rating sale. Conversion Scheme.—The finance committee's recommendation was adopted, "That the Local Government Loans Board scheme of conversion be adopted, and that application be made for approval of the scheme." Rates—lt was decided to levy rates on 75 ipe rcent of the ratable value, viz., £291,442. The net amount of the rates is estimated at £15,741 11/10. To produce this amount a rate of 1/1 in the £ is required. A rebate of 2 per cent will be given for payment within one mQnth, as was done last year. Stock on Footpaths.—Complaints were made that, drovers were becoming careless when driving stock through the borough' on sale days, and allowing cattle to wander on the;footpaths. It was decided to appoint, two men to watch offenders and take their names, with, a view; to a prosecution^
