WHITE HORSE CUP CONTEST. LADIES' PROVINCIAL CUP. The Country Week liockcy tournament conducted by tlio two Auckland associations opened at Keniuei'ii yesterday afternoon. There are two competitions, the White Horse Cup (held by Waipa) and' tlie Ladies' Provincial Cu.p (held bv Auckland A). Keen interest was taken in the first round as the importance of getting a legin so early in the tournament was not lost upon the various competing teams. Results:— PROVINCIAL CUP. A Section. THS SOCIAL SIDE.
Full arrangements lor the entertainment ot visitors liave been made. List evening [tin! ladies'' teams, together with their managers and chaperones, attended the Civic Theatre, and this morning they were entertained at morning tea by Mr. Stuart Milne at the te.iroonis at Millie and (Jlloyee, Ltd. The annual hockey ball will be held at the Peter Pan Cabaret to-morrow evening, and on Friday tlie men's association has arranged a smoke concert at which prizes will lie presented.
N.Z. SHIELD CHALLENGE.
Arrangements for New Zealand Hockey Shield challenge matches were made at a meeting of the Auckland Hockey Association last evening. The following dates were approved Against Waikato, July .21 ; against Wellington, August 18. Owing to tlie Town-Country matelies all senior games will he played at 1.50 p.m. next Saturday, while second grade games will be postponed. Lower grade games will be played as usual. Mr. W. Newsham was appointed manager and C. Watts captain of the Auckland team to play Country next Saturday.
