TRANSPORT BOARD AND TAXIS j "We have no control over taxis which are run as taxis; the control belongs to the municipal authorities," said Air. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, this morning, when a member mentioned cheap taxi fares. Air. Potter: If the trams cannot compete with taxis, then it is time the trams went off the road. Air. Allum mentioned that he understood that one line of cars was running I four passengers four miles for a shil- : ling. However, that was their business, j Air. Campbell: We are concerned with , the falling revenue of the trams. ) Air. Allum: We cannot consider that, as the taxis are outside otir jurisdiction regarding the fares charged.
