NOT EXCESSIVE.
COSTS OF ENGINEERING. CIIRISTCHURCH CITY REPORT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRIST CHURCH, this day. The opinion that the annual administration costs of the engineer's depart ment of the Cliriotcliurcli City Council are not excessive was expressed in a special report submitted to the council by Messrs. (!. A. Hunter and W. H. Winsor. The report pointed out that the city generally had received value for additional expenditure entailed by the progressive policy adopted and the permanent increase i:i administration costs were both inevitable and justified. Councilor T. Andrews, who had requested that the report be brought down, said the report seemed all right so fur as it went, but it was a veiled one. He considered that the engineer's staff should be reduced considerably. The report will be reviewed 'at the next meeting of the council.
