KING'S BIRTHDAY TOURNEY. Seven-a-Side Games — Field Races Run — Herbert Smith Gift Sticks. r The annual combined Kings Birthday carnival and seven-a-skle tournament under the auspices of the Auckland Ladies ! and Men's Hockey Association was started this morniii" at Reniuera under splendid weather conditions. The playing area of 13 acres was ill fine order, and the players' varied coloured ituiI fortius against the green sward provided ; a picturesque scene. The entries were.in excess of last sea- ] son, there being 71 teams from both associations taking part in the games. The ladies' association's arrangements were controlled by Miss A. Twiuaine and Miss K. R. Burton. On the men's side ; the officials were as follows: —Records, .Messrs. G. Peace and Whalcy; emergency, ! Messrs. T. Clark, X. Wilson and G. Peace; call stew ards, Messrs. X. Wilson, T. Clark, Surytlioman. Field events: Ilandicappor and starters. Messrs. H. Watts anil C. Preston; judges, Messrs. Coop, Moore and Wilson. A handsome gift of 20 hockey sticks was received from the Herbert Smith Trust as trophies for competition in the schoolboys' tournament games and running races. The sticks were displayed on the front of the pavilion and aroused a lot of interest. The morning was devoted to the schoolboys' and ladies' junior seven-a- j side games and the afternoon to the senior | games and field events. j It was pleasing to note that the col-| legiato teams, under a special arrange- | meat, combined ijj the ladies' games. All the games were controlled by the Auckland Umpires' Association. In the lad.es' section the trophies for competition (points being gained -in both tournament games and iield events) were: Seniors, Doris Cup, runners up Coweu Cup; intermediate King's Birthday Cup; juniors, -Kent's Cup. Men's section: Seniors, Trevor Davis Cup; runners up, Harvard Cup. Schoolboys, Rupert C. Moore. The tournament games resulted as follows: — SCHOOLBOYS. SENIOR. First Round. —Papatoctoe 1, v.
