CARRIER PIGEONS HONOURED.

Sixteen years after the orhl War a memorial has been erected in Budapest to commemorate the services which pigeons rendered to the old Aust.ro-Hun-garian army. About 100 homing pigeons were used "for military purposes. The birds had to carry important messages from various parts of the front to headquarters and back again, and they soon became targets of the enemy. Three of the war-time birds are still alive, having attained an age very rare anion" pigeons. The oldest returned quite unexpectedly in the autumn of 1919, after an absence of almost two years. The bird was badly wounded and half dead, but recovered in an amazingly short time, and is now perhaps tinhealthiest and liveliest among its mates in the pigeon farm.
