OFFICE BOY TO OWNER.
PRESENTATION TO MR. H. R. JOXES.
Over 200 employees of J. M. Mennie, X/td., assembled, in one of the spacious workrooms of the firm in Stanley Street at noon to-day, when a gold-mounted fob was presented to Mr. H. Jt. Jones, owner of the business. Starting , 50 years ago as office boy with the firm, when it was situated opposite tho Waverley Hotel, Mr. Jones now controls tho business, and, in the words of tho employees, lie ha& alwaj-s been one of them.
The presentation wae made by Mr. W. Grubb, whose service with the firm of J. M. Mennie, Ltd., extends, to- f>9 years, and lie expressed, in a few words, the esteem in which Mr. Jones was held by all. Messrs. J. Mennie, ,H. Allen, W. Anjrus and Mrs. Burpess afeo conp-atulated Mr. Jones on his half-century's service with the firm, and paid hijrh tribute to him as a frllow worker and later as employer. AH wished him many more years' pood health.
Mr. Jones made a brief reply in thanking , the employees and office' stnfT for their -token of appreciation. Hβ eaid that "he was quite unprepared for the reception and presentation. ' which made them more pleas.in<r. Ho thought he could show no bettor way of expressing, his appreciation than by declaring a holiday for the. factory * staff to" morrow. Thi* was met by loiul applause and the sinjring of "For He's a Jolly Good Pellow."
